How many days should I spend in Korcula?

The only way to get to Korcula is by boat, so it's a perfect stop-off point on a Croatian sailing holiday. Plan to spend three or four days on the island to really make the most of your trip.
Although full of stairs, Korcula Old Town is easy to explore on foot; especially if you stop off regularly for a coffee and spot of people watching. Legend has it that Marco Polo lived here and you can visit his supposed house.
If you come in June, you can enjoy the town's Sword Dance Festival. After a busy morning, laze away the afternoon on a sandy beach such as Bacva or Zitna.
When it's time to dine, pop into a traditional tavern and sample the unique island cuisine. Spend another day exploring Korcula's wine culture on an organised e-bike tour. The Lumbarda vineyards with their ocean backing are beautifully photogenic while the Grk wine, introduced by the Ancient Greeks, is deliciously unique.
Let someone else do the sailing and spend a day taking water taxis to the small islands of Badija, Vrnik, or Mljet. Badija has a monastery and gorgeous beaches while Vrnik has a laidback village vibe. Much of Mljet is a nature reserve and perfect for long hikes along the coastline, around salt lakes or through ancient ruins.

By size, Korcula is Croatia's second-largest island and it's the perfect spot for a sailing stop-off. During your visit to Korcula, indulge yourself with a spot of island hopping, as must-see towns such as Vela Luka are within easy reach.
Some of these islands can be reached by kayak while all are accessible by small rental boats or water taxis. Maybe one of the most beautiful of these islands is the mainly uninhabited Mljet. Much of Mljet is a nature reserve made up of two saltwater lakes filled with deep blue water and a dense forest crisscrossed with hiking trails. On your way to Mljet, call into the tiny St Mary's Island with its 12th-century Benedictine monastery.
A monastery can also be explored on the island of Badija. Now uninhabited, it has beautiful beaches for sunbathing and snorkelling as well as a snack bar for lunch.
Also known for its photogenic beaches, Vrnik is home to just a few long-time residents. Proizd is idyllic and conjures up images of a typical tropical island. With little to do, it's the perfect getaway for walking, lazing on the beach, swimming, and enjoying fresh seafood in the small restaurant.
If you really want to get away from it all during your Croatian holiday, then you must head to these small islands near Korcula.
