Winter is coming. Explore the Game of Thrones universe with this seven-day sailing tour, including a multilingual skipper, detailed tours of the show’s filming locations, a luxurious stay on an elegant and comfortable yacht and an insider’s guide to the best of Croatia’s restaurants, sights and places of interest. You can start the tour either from Split or Dubrovnik.
Begin this unique adventure by visiting 3 different filming locations in and around Split. Start the journey with a tour of the Old Town - the ancient Diocletian’s Palace, one of the most important Roman ruins in the world, which is also the setting for some of the basement scenes in Game of Thrones. Roam the streets that became the slave city of Meereen and see the real Daenerys’ Throne Room. Continue the tour in Klis, a mountain village hosting the rocky cliff, known as Klis Fortress. Learn about the scenes filmed here while enjoying the breath-taking views of Split, as the Adriatic stretches ahead of you. Finish the day at the 600-year-old stone water mill on the banks of Zrnovica river, where several Game of Thrones scenes were filmed. Finally, indulge in a traditional Croatian barbecue experience with all the trimmings.
Sail to one of Croatia’s most loved Dalmatian islands, boasting ancient sights, Byzantine fortresses and countless eateries, bars and shops proudly offering local produce. There’ll be plenty of opportunities to go for a swim at one Hvar’s picturesque little bays and hidden coves.
Korčula, many locals’ favourite island, lies in a peninsula surrounded by high mountains, green with thick vegetation. The birthplace of Marco Polo, the charming old town is scattered with medieval churches and windy little streets. Ecclesiastical processions are a special highlight, and one very typical of the island.
Sail to Croatia’s greenest island, famous for its national park status, tranquility, unmatched natural beauty and saltwater lakes. According to legend, Odysseus was so captivated by Mljet that he stayed on the island for 7 years, so make sure to be back on the yacht by the end of the day. The trip will take you to an island within the island, where an ancient monastery can be explored.
The island of Lokrum is one of the key Game of Thrones filming locations. A number of the show’s scenes were shot here - especially the ones set in the trading city of Qarth, where ships from Westeros, the Free Cities, the Summer Islands and Slaver’s Bay pass through. Most importantly, this is also the place where you can try out sitting in the iron throne. But don’t get too comfortable, of course. Winter is coming, after all.
Dubrovnik is the main location where Game of Thrones was filmed. Visit Red Keep, where several famous scenes were shot: Joffrey’s Name Day Tournament, Tyrion slapping Joffrey (poor ol’ Joffrey), Sansa being saved by the Hound, the ‘Power is power’ dialogue and the Purple Wedding (omg!) scene. Afterwards, explore the docks of King’s Landing where several important events took place in the show: Myrcella was sent to Dorne, Sir Robert Baratheons’s child was murdered and Sansa was considering eloping with Littlefinger. Visit the Gates of King’s Landing where the rebellion against Joffrey took place in season 2. Other notable locations include the House of the Undying, Littlefinger’s entertainment house, views of Qarth and the streets where Cersei’s walk of shame took place.
