While Hvar Town has a glamorous air and is full of nightlife, quieter Stari Grad is often overlooked. It's charming, historic, cultured, and is definitely worth a visit. The Old Town centre is on the UNESCO World Heritage List and nestles in the deep protected bay that attracted the original Greek settlers.
Restaurants, bars, and shops as well as Venetian Renaissance buildings line the palm-fringed Riva or promenade, the perfect spot for early morning or evening walks. Away from the water, narrow streets and alleys add to Stari Grad's quaint charm. Some of these lanes have been in existence since 384 B.C. At the heart of the city is Srinjo Kola, or Middle Street, which was once packed with craftsmen and merchants. Look out for the ancient Roman mosaic, discovered in 1923, and spend a couple of hours visiting the 16th-century Tvrdalj Palace with its beautiful gardens, terraces, and fish pool.
No holiday is complete without relaxing on the beach. The best in Stari Grad is Oslic Beach where the water is perfect for snorkelling. Shop for local produce such as fresh bread, cheese, olives, chocolate, and, of course, local wine and beer, and pack a picnic to enjoy on the beach. At the end of the day, watch the sunset from Glavica Hill, the highest point in Stari Grad.

Stari Grad is a beautiful town on the north coast of the island of Hvar which is in Dalmatia, Croatia. There's a quaint church, old cobbled streets, and the Stari Grad Plain which is now a World Heritage Site.
When it comes to stunning beaches, you're spoiled for choice in Stari Grad. Visit Zukova Beach, Maslinica Bay, Banj Beach, or Zavala Bay. There's lots to do and see at these beach resorts, but they're also perfect for chilling out and relaxing.
At Zukova Beach you will find total peace and quiet. There are lovely pine trees which you can sit under when the sun gets a bit too hot, clear blue waters to have a swim in, and pebble coves to explore.
Maslinica Bay Beach also has crystal clear waters and plenty of amenities close by. This beach is pebbly so it's recommended to wear sandals when walking along the shore.
Banj Beach is ideal for those who can't swim as the waters here are quite shallow. Enjoy the sea and sun as well as beach bars, showers, changing rooms, and comfortable sun loungers.
The small bay at Zavala also offers shady pine trees as well as a pebbly beach. Relax in the sun or have a dip in the beautiful warm waters. There's something here for everyone.
