Meet Sasa:

skipper from zizoo

Sasa, tell us about yourself. Where are you from? For how long have you been a skipper?

My name is Sasa Drobac. I’m 27 years old and I’m from Zagreb, the capital city of Croatia. I have been working as a skipper for 5 years now and it has been an amazing journey.

How did you start sailing and then decided to even become a skipper guiding travelers around?

The first time I was on a boat I was only 3 years old and from then I probably fell in love with the boat and the sea. My parents took me on summer holidays sailing every year for a couple of weeks and that’s how I learned how to sail. When I got older I heard that there is a job position called skipper and that was something I really wanted to do, because it is an amazing combination of a boat, sea, and meeting new people.

What’s your favorite route and why?

My favorite route is from Split to Dubrovnik because you see the most beautiful parts of the Croatian coast and I know that territory really well.

What’s your favorite boat and why?

My favorite boat is Lagoon 42 and Dufour 56. I know these are two different boats but I like Lagoon because of its space and elegance and it’s easy to sail. Dufour 56 however is an amazing boat that has everything you need, it’s great for sailing, has great engines, and a luxurious interior.

I didn’t count it but I would say +50 trips until now.

You must have met a lot of interesting people and made experiences, is there anything special (funny, emotional, sensational) you remember?

There are many situations that I remember with my guests and it is from crazy sailings on the strong wind to beautiful bays for swimming and amazing restaurants that we visit. I also keep my small book for reviews where my guests write me up how they remember their week.

What do you like most about your job?

I like that I’m on a boat in the middle of the sea with amazing people from all around the world. Nothing else is needed here.

What is the hardest part of your job?

The hardest part of this job depends on the type of guests you get, everything else is easy.

What is your advice for beginner sailors? Or somebody who wants to learn how to sail?

I would suggest they always stay calm in every situation and think logically when they have to make some decisions. Enjoy the process and never underestimate the weather conditions. Also, check everything twice and make sure safety is your priority.
