Things to do and see when sailing in Seychelles
One of the main draws of a sailing holiday in Seychelles, is the unspoilt and natural beauty of the islands. Relax on secluded beaches while sailing around the pristine, uninhabited islands.
In addition to offering diverse forest and coastal landscapes for sports and relaxation, a sailing holiday in Seychelles offers visitors a wealth of historic sites and fine cuisine to discover.
Visit and explore:
- The capital of Victoria is a fascinating historical town with unique architecture including the Tempio Hindu, a pyramid temple in the centre of the city.
- Enjoy outdoor dining at The Pavilion, which serves excellent barbecue food to be enjoyed by the water.
- Also, head to the Gecko Bar or Boardwalk Bar & Grill for delicious grilled seafood and shellfish served with tropical fruits. Félicité Island Lodge is an excellent resort where you can eat, relax at the beach or go snorkeling.
Many of the islands remain well-preserved, thanks to their protected status:
- Just a stone’s throw from Mahé is the beautiful Marine National Park on Ste. Anne Island.
- Dolphins and turtles are frequently spotted around the island.
- Further out in the ocean is Curieuse, where you’ll find excellent snorkeling opportunities around the Marine National Park.
- Even above the water, the crystal clear waters will allow you to admire the huge range of exotic sea life.
- You can also go for a walk around the park and admire the breathtaking nature that surrounds you.
- Nearby, you can also visit La Digue and Silhouette and discover the minor, mostly uninhabited islands during your sailing holiday.

Sailing conditions
The south-easterly Indian Ocean tradewinds make May to October ideal for a sailing holiday in Seychelles, when the seas are at their calmest. Moderate wave heights of a meter or so are common within Inner Seychelles. Outer Seychelles are generally too choppy to allow for private sailing. Air temperatures up to about 30°C are common throughout the year with water temperatures in spring and early summer averaging about the same.
- Staying within the Inner Seychelles still leaves you a lot to explore, and you can be confident that the area is well mapped and provides excellent opportunities for mooring or anchorage.
- The largest rocks around these areas are generally easily visible to the eye, but do watch out as they are often not marked with buoys or lights.
- If you don’t have a license yourself, you can rent a skipper with Zizoo to navigate your boat.
- This way you can simply sit back and take in the cool breeze during your sailing holiday in Seychelles.
- Cruise along the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean while making stops to relax on white sandy beaches and explore the island chain’s fascinating cultural, natural and historic sites.
