Costa Smeralda is one of the most glamorous destinations in all of the Mediterranean. From super yachts and exclusive clubs, you’ll find yourself surrounded by the rich and famous during the height of summer along the famous coast in hot spots like Porto Cervo. Although the allure of Costa Smeralda’s luxurious restaurants, clubs and shops might be enough to perk your interest, it is the area’s stunning natural sites, beaches and sailing opportunities that really get our attention. Here’s a look at some of the best attractions and most beautiful beaches in Sardinia to visit on your next sailing holiday in Italy.

The Most Beautiful Beaches in Sardinia: Sailing Along Costa Smeralda

Make your way around Costa Smeralda (the Emerald Coast) from Portisco, the perfect base for a yacht charter holiday spent sailing in northeastern Sardinia.  Don’t miss these incredible beaches as you set sail from your base in Portisco:

    Spiaggia La Celvia

Allure, glamour and luxury – Spiaggia La Celvia has it all. A magnet for celebrities and super yachts, La Celvia is one of the biggest and most beautiful beaches in Sardinia. Not far from the beach, you can find several fine dining options and chic bars – the perfect places to relax after a day spent lounging in the sun. The translucent waters look even more stunning at La Celvia because of the multi-coloured shells that make up the beach’s unique sand.

Just down the coast from Porto Cervo you’ll find Pevero Beach – or Piccolo and Grande Pevero to be exact. Offering soft, powdery white sand, Piccolo and Grande Pevero Beaches should not be missed on your boat trip along the Costa Smeralda. In the summer, you’ll find several yachts on the calm, vibrant blue and turquoise waters that surround the crescent bays.

    Spiaggia del Principe

Dubbed the most beautiful beach on the Emerald Coast by Prince Karim Aga Khan, who also gave this gorgeous cove its name, Spiaggia del Principe is a true natural wonder. Surrounded by Sardinia’s rugged terrain and pink granite rocks, Spiaggia del Principe is one of the most beloved beaches in Sardinia. The shallow, transparent waters are perfect for snorkelling or for relaxing on a raft.

     La Maddalena

La Maddalena is a true sailor’s paradise.

Just north of Costa Smeralda, you can enjoy island hopping in La Maddalena Archipelago. Here you will also find some of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia. The archipelago is made up of over 60 islands and islets and boasts around 300 unspoilt beaches. With so many beautiful islands to explore, it will be hard not to find a hidden bay or tranquil cove to stop for a swim. Keep in mind that you will need a permit to sail in the protected marine park and that overnight anchorage is not possible in most areas.

One of the most popular beaches in La Maddelana is Cala dello Spalmatore, but if you are looking for something a bit more secluded, we recommend a trip to Cala Lunga on the island of Razzoli. Reachable only by boat, Cala Lunga is an enchanting cove where you will find yourself surrounded by intriguing granite rock formations.

    Spiaggia Rena Bianca

After a relaxing stop in La Maddalena Archipelago, you can continue sailing north-west to Santa Teresa Gallura. The blue flag beach of Rene Bianca is one of the most loved beaches on the Italian island. Offering shelter from the wind, this calm beach makes a great place to stop while sailing in northern Sardinia. On clear summer days, you can even get a glimpse of the white cliffs that define Bonifacio on the French island of Corsica from your yacht. After relaxing in the sun on your yacht’s deck, grab your snorkelling gear and jump into the transparent waters of Rena Bianca.

    Capo Coda Cavallo

Want to venture further? Before returning to your charter in Portisco, you might be tempted to continue south towards San Teodoro to reach Capo Coda Cavallo. Located between the mountains on Sardinia’s northeastern coast below Costa Smeralda, Capo Cado Cavallo beach is best accessed by boat. The crystal clear waters are shallow and warm, making it an ideal beach for children. The bay provides a good anchorage as it is well sheltered from winds and offers fantastic views of the nearby island Molara and the surrounding mountains.
